John Rains

District 6110 - District Governor-elect

It was my honor and privilege to be selected to serve District 6110 as District Governor for the 2025-2026 Rotary Year. As a servant leader at heart, I will employ my faith, family, professional and Rotary experiences to foster an environment of friendship, mutual respect, passion, and creativity. Serving our District’s Members, Clubs, and Communities will be fulfilling my heart’s desire to further serve in this great organization, and the adventure of a lifetime for my wife Cathy and me!

I was born in Tahlequah, OK and have lived in the Green Country area ever since. I graduated from Sapulpa High School and went on to attend the University of Oklahoma, Tulsa Junior College, and the University of Tulsa from where I received a Bachelor of Business Administration–Management Information Systems degree.

Vocationally I began my career as a Systems Analyst for Conoco-Phillips, then partnering with a fellow Rotarian as Vice President of Sales and part owner of Austral Inc, an IT services company. Most recently I joined IMAX Corp (not the theatre) as Director of Information Systems before being promoted to Vice President of Sales and then President. I am currently a licensed Realtor with HomeSmart Stellar Realty and am managing my rental investments in the Tulsa area.

I have had wonderful Rotary experiences as a 24-year member of 2 different Clubs – starting with the Rotary Club of Sapulpa from 1999 – 2001 and since with the Rotary Club of Tulsa. In addition to serving as President in 2016 -2017 for the Rotary Club of Tulsa, I was honored to be named the Rotarian of the Year in 2014 and receive the James G Saied Service Above Self Award in 2017. I have served in several District positions and 2023-2024 year, I am the District Governor Nominee, leading the Disaster Recovery Planning efforts for our District, and Chair of the Rotary Club of Tulsa’s Membership Engagement Committee.

As a blended family, Cathy and I have shared raising 5 children (and 3 exchange students) during our 24 years of marriage, our youngest son now 27. We have been active over the years with our children, Church, community, and Rotary. Most recently, as empty nesters, we have enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and ourselves during our RV lifestyle.
